The academic methodologies and system are planned to develop in every child the ability to think not only vertically but also laterally. Children learn to correlate learning to daily life and apply theory to practical situations. They work on projects and themes that provide them opportunities to develop varied skills and talents.
Exploratory Method of Teaching
DVPS has adapted innovative methods of teaching. We believe that to be successful in academics, sourcing of information, logical documentation and presentation are essential components in the learning process. Students are given projects to work on as a group and freely access major source books on their own. They have learnt to organize their ideas logically using computer hard discs, floppies or transparencies and thereafter make presentations in class using multi media projectors. The faculty guides them in various aspects of communication such as gestures, posture and eye contact during presentations. For majority of the students, this is a new experience and naturally they are nervous at the outset. However, with time they gain confidence.
Science Practical and Class Demonstrations
CBSE syllabus recommends Science Practical experiments for Standard IX and above.
However, the school has taken the initiative to conduct such Practical experiments for all classes to help them understand the concepts through experience. These experiments are demonstrated in the classrooms and laboratories.
Presentations and Projects
Besides routine class presentations, students are often given independent projects during vacations to collect samples of man made materials, which they study in their course. Some of the children have been part of an exhaustive research work presented at a colorful seminar on ‘Environmental Pollution’.
Learn at your own pace
No two children are alike. To help children learn without peer pressure, every class is divided into three categories, Enrichment, Improvement and Excellence. These groups work at their pace and are provided with inputs that match their learning speed. The groups are evaluated individually and children who show progress are moved into the higher group.
The bridge curriculum is a unique feature of the DVPS Learning program. We recognise that children come to us from diverse backgrounds and mixed academic levels.
Therefore, before the start of the syllabus for a particular class, we commence the bridging process. Through this we try to ensure that the children grasp all-important concepts in the core subjects. Hence, the further learning process becomes more meaningful for the child as the foundation is firm and the transition is smooth.
Regular prep hours are a part of the daily schedule. Arrangements will be made for special coaching required by the seniors for competitive exams.
Students are evaluated through a carefully planned system which not only assesses academic performance, but also the various skills required for all round development.
The counselling program also ensures equal opportunities for all students to participate fully in the education process. Learning difficulties, if any, are identified. There is a special Resource Room, with facilities for remedial teaching, for children identified with such difficulties.
In response to the needs of children with learning difficulties, the school takes accountability for a remedial program that is incorporated into the curriculum. The program is designed to give teachers an understanding of the problem and equip them with skills to identify these difficulties in children. The remedial / resource room is staffed by a well-qualified teacher with a specialisation in Special Education. Annual and short-term objectives are developed.
